MQM Deputy Convener Syed Atif Shamim Addresses Kashmir Rights Protest Outside Pakistani Consulate in Houston

Founder and Quaid-e-Tehreek Mr. Altaf Hussain and Every Single MQM Worker Fully Supports the Peaceful Struggle of the Kashmiri People — Atif Shamim

June 9, 2026 (Houston, Texas):
Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan’s Deputy Convener Syed Atif Shamim, along with Houston Chapter office bearers and workers, represented MQM at a Kashmir Rights protest demonstration organized by the Kashmiri community outside the Pakistani Consulate in Houston, participated enthusiastically, and addressed the participants.
Addressing the protesters, Syed Atif Shamim said that MQM stands with Quaid-e-Tehreek Mr. Altaf Hussain’s principled position on the Kashmir issue. He said that Altaf Hussain’s statement on the current situation in Kashmir is a true reflection of the pain, oppression, and sovereign rights of the Kashmiri people.
Syed Atif Shamim said that from childhood we saw camps being set up for Kashmir, collections being made in mosques, and heard from our elders that Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan — but today the very people of that same Kashmir are facing oppression, tyranny, deprivation, and state indifference. He questioned whether, after Balochistan, Sindh, Karachi, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the public voice in Kashmir will also be suppressed through force.
Expressing deep grief and sorrow over the martyrdoms and loss of lives in Rawalakot and other areas, he said that violence against the Kashmiri people, the violation of their fundamental rights, and the suppression of their voice is condemnable. The state of Pakistan must seriously reflect on what stance it wishes to maintain toward Kashmir and the Kashmiri people.
Syed Atif Shamim demanded that the legitimate demands of the Kashmiri people be immediately accepted, the use of force be brought to an end, violations of human rights be taken notice of, justice be provided to the families of the martyrs, and the decision regarding Kashmir’s future be left to the Kashmiris themselves in accordance with their own wishes.
He made it clear that Mr. Altaf Hussain, MQM, and every single one of its workers stand alongside every protest and every voice raised for the rights of the Kashmiri people — whether in Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Texas, Washington, New York, or any other city in the world. MQM fully supports the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, sovereignty, fundamental human rights, and their struggle for justice.
During the protest, demonstrators held Kashmiri flags and banners of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee, while the following slogans and messages were prominently raised:
Kashmir is drenched in blood — Give justice to Kashmir — Restore the rights of Kashmiris — Salute to the martyrs of Rawalakot — State oppression is unacceptable — The voice of Kashmir is our voice — Give Kashmiris the right to self-determination — End the oppression in Kashmir
Concluding his address, Syed Atif Shamim expressed complete solidarity with the Kashmiri people and said that MQM will continue to raise its voice for the rights, justice, and freedom of expression of the oppressed people. He concluded by passionately raising the slogan of “Inquilab Zindabad” (Long Live the Revolution).
