(Where Is the Graveyard of the Unscrupulous? )
Sometimes I contemplate how mortals inhabiting this ephemeral world endure inexplicable afflictions while merely existing. In this sycophantic epoch, the life of an honorable man does not simply become insufferable; it metamorphoses into a harrowing tragedy.
Imploring sanctuary for dignity, supplicating for the preservation of life, and beseeching elementary human compassion, man traverses episodes so egregious that humanity itself is compelled to recoil in shame.
In my preceding column, I depicted the calamitous plight of a destitute mother and her offspring, posing only this inquiry: Why does one human obliterate another’s existence with the savagery of a feral predator, transmute a moment into agony, and derive euphoric gratification from it—then recline, self-applauding his illusory omnipotence?
I often reflect on how the Lord of the Worlds, in His scripture, addresses mankind with a rhetorical provocation: “Who is mightier than I? It is I alone who resurrect the dead.” Whereas these self-proclaimed potentates of earth can extinguish a life with one or two bullets. Yet annihilation is an act the feeblest and the most formidable among men can both perpetrate; bestowing life remains beyond any mortal’s dominion. This incontrovertibly proves that absolute sovereignty belongs solely to the Almighty. All other petty and grand tyrants can only dispense death.
The world witnessed how the so-called superpowers—America and Israel—were compelled to capitulate before Iran through Pakistan’s agency. Yet from Syria to the entirety of the Muslim Ummah, blood has been spilled with such impunity that to this day no tribunal has demanded accountability. Pardon my digression from the principal thesis.
Today we have rebranded cunning as sagacity, duplicity as vigilance, and obsequious sycophancy for a few coins as “diplomatic relations.” We refuse introspection. Why are the venerable silent in our society? The arena is now so grotesquely orchestrated that the demarcation between veracity and falsehood has been obliterated. Toadies and egoists, in pursuit of an affluent existence, adopt bestiality without the slightest compunction.
Who shall rectify this society? Who will unveil the atrocities of the oppressor? Countless souls around us subsist amidst tribulations and torment, yet we remain mute. Why? Because we are ensnared by expediency and vested interests.
I often say: If only there existed a separate necropolis for the conscienceless.
Today’s column is undeniably acerbic, yet we must ruminate with the intention of reformation. Further discourse on this in the next column.
