Jeddah: 23rd Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, Resolution Adopted on Palestine

The 23rd Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held at the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah.The meeting discussed key issues, including Israel’s illegal actions in the occupied Palestinian territories and the election of the new OIC Secretary-General.
Foreign ministers and high-level delegations from OIC member states attended the session. Pakistan was represented by Ambassador Syed Muhammad Fawad Sher, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the OIC, on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar.
The meeting adopted a comprehensive resolution strongly condemning Israel’s ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people, its illegal occupation of the occupied Palestinian territories, land confiscation, expansion of settlements, settler violence, forced displacement, and serious violations of human rights.
The resolution called on the international community and OIC member states to continue legal, political, and diplomatic efforts to halt Israel’s expansionist policies and actions.
The meeting also unanimously elected former Mauritanian Foreign Minister Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed as the new Secretary-General of the OIC.
Ambassador Fawad Sher commended the services of outgoing OIC Secretary-General Hissein Ibrahim Taha, expressing the Government of Pakistan’s gratitude for his contributions. He congratulated the newly elected Secretary-General and assured him of Pakistan’s full cooperation.
On the issue of Palestine, Ambassador Fawad Sher condemned Israeli atrocities, illegal settlement activities in the West Bank, desecration of holy sites in East Jerusalem, and expansionist plans. He called for a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict and urged full implementation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
He also urged the OIC to further intensify its efforts to support the people of Kashmir in achieving their right to self-determination and to maintain its principled position for a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
