Regional Tensions and Pakistan’s Rising Role in Global Diplomacy

Regional Tensions and the Need for Rational Diplomacy

( Pakistan Glorified on the ) Horizon of the World

Before proceeding to my main column, it is pertinent to mention that the negotiations between Pakistan and the Taliban at the Chaman Pak-Afghan border and Ormichi have concluded without any formal communiqué. Although it emerged during these talks that violations had occurred on both sides, further negotiations will be held through the mediation of China. The respective delegations have returned to their countries and will brief their higher authorities regarding the developments.
I steadfastly maintain that nations progress through trade and sound diplomatic relations—not through emotions. This is a time for prudence and عقل (rational judgment), as the world is rapidly transforming.
Secondly, the prolonged closure of the Chaman Pak-Afghan border has rendered thousands unemployed. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure their rehabilitation and provide sustainable livelihoods. Likewise, facilitating the dignified return and movement of Pakistani citizens stranded at the border is also a state obligation. I have repeatedly addressed this issue in my previous columns over the past three years and shall continue to highlight it.

Pakistan’s Strategic Role in Global Peace and Mediation

Now, turning to the theme “Pakistan Zindabad”:
The same Pakistan, once anticipated by critics and global hegemonic forces—including India—to default, has now emerged resilient. Meanwhile, the devastating 26-day war involving Israel, the United States, and Iran inflicted colossal destruction, human casualties, and billions of dollars in losses, shaking the entire world. Analysts concluded that the war would culminate in nothing but devastation.
Despite immense losses, including the martyrdom of its military and political leadership, Iran displayed remarkable steadfastness and refused to capitulate. Saudi Arabia’s restraint and strategic patience, alongside Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement, prevented the conflict from engulfing the entire Muslim world.
Recently, Iran launched a dangerous missile strike on Saudi Arabia, which Pakistan strongly condemned, warning that such actions could sabotage ongoing peace negotiations. The Pakistan Army’s Corps Commanders Conference also expressed grave concern over this escalation.

Pakistan’s Rising Influence on the World Horizon

Notably, Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Field Marshal, Syed Hafiz Asim Munir, remained actively engaged until 3 a.m., successfully mediating a temporary two-week ceasefire just an hour before former U.S. President Donald Trump’s 48-hour ultimatum to strike Iran expired. Furthermore, the Strait of Hormuz was reopened.
These negotiations are now scheduled to resume on Friday, April 10, in Islamabad. However, there remains a persistent threat of sabotage by hostile forces. Nevertheless, I am confident that Pakistan’s institutions remain vigilant.
An important point to note is that Pakistan’s stance has displeased the UAE, and it is now up to Iran whether it will reciprocate this goodwill or revert to its previous posture. Following the ceasefire announcement, celebrations erupted across Iran, with people visibly waving Pakistan’s green crescent flag.
In India, Prime Minister Modi is facing severe criticism and public pressure, with an atmosphere of despair prevailing. It is increasingly acknowledged that Pakistan’s significance cannot be denied.
Indeed, Allah Almighty has elevated Pakistan’s stature on the global stage, and we must express gratitude for this honor.

During these 26 days, Pakistan’s role can be summarized as follows:
Secured financial assistance from the IMF
Asserted influence over Afghanistan and regional dynamics
Strengthened ties with the United States
Advocated ceasefire efforts with China
Stood firmly with Iran
Condemned aggression against Saudi Arabia and revitalized defense cooperation
Initiated the “Islamabad Accord” against extremism
Ensured maritime passage through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz
Assured repayment of a $3 billion loan to the UAE
Secured a two-week extension from Trump
Avoided contentious voting in the United Nations
Prevented large-scale civilian devastation in Iran at critical moments
Emerged as a global mediator
Reopened the Strait of Hormuz
Helped avert a potential Third World War—at least temporarily

This is Pakistan—a nation where survival itself is a miracle, and miracles have become routine.
Alhamdulillah. Pakistan will live forever, InshaAllah
