SANA is the largest representative body of Sindhis in North America, established in 1984. As a non-profit organization, its primary objective is to unite Sindhis globally to serve the community effectively and defend the historic national rights of their ancestral land, Sindh.
The organization is a key advocate for Sindhi cultural preservation and provides essential support, including educational scholarships to deserving students in Sindh through its Dr. Feroz Ahmed Memorial Educational Fund (FAME Fund).
The convention served as a crucial platform for community-building, offering attendees a chance to network, discuss issues facing the Sindhi diaspora, and honor the traditions of their homeland. A variety of sessions were held on topics ranging from community development to youth engagement, emphasizing SANA’s commitment to preserving Sindhi identity for future generations.
Highlights of the event included a medical session by the PIVNA (Pakistan-Indian- Sindhi-Medical- Association), a “mushairo” (poetry symposium), and a cultural gala night featuring traditional Sindhi music and dance.
The convention also featured a dedicated program on women’s empowerment, gender equality, and the role of women in society. Additionally, a highlight was the book launching of SANA president Dr. Maqbool Halepota’s new book, “Sindh in Global Context: Past, Present, Future, and Origins 2600 BCE to…”. Participants also had the opportunity to explore a marketplace showcasing Sindhi handicrafts and cuisine.
Abid Hussain Lashari, President of the National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) Pakistan, also participated in the convention. He used the platform to highlight his extensive work in Sindh focused on the empowerment of persons with disabilities.
The annual convention, which has grown to be a significant international event, is a major source of funding for SANA’s various programs, including educational scholarships and initiatives to support the community. The successful conclusion of the 41st convention in Houston underscores the association’s ongoing role as a vital organization for the global Sindhi community.
