An important meeting of the Executive Committee of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Lahore was held at PMA House Lahore under the chairmanship of PMA Central President Dr. Izhar Ahmed Chaudhry. The meeting was attended by several members of the Executive Committee including Professor Dr. Shahid Malik, Professor Ashraf Nizami, Dr. Iram Shahzadi, Dr. Maryam Fatima, Dr. Bushra Haq, Dr. Muhammad Sadiq, Dr. Ahmed Naeem Akhtar.
The meeting took important decisions after detailed deliberation on the issues facing the health sector. The participants emphasized that the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) should be made a completely independent, transparent and elected institution from political interference so as to maintain the autonomy and professional standards of the medical sector.
The meeting expressed serious concern over the alleged irregularities and injustices in the MD CAT examination and demanded immediate investigation and transparent action from the concerned authorities so that justice can be done for the future of the students.
The unconstitutional and aggressive raids carried out by the Punjab Healthcare Commission on clinics and hospitals in the name of MSDS were strongly condemned. The participants termed these actions as a mockery of doctors, an attack on the autonomy of the profession and a means of harassment and said that these steps are being taken merely to collect revenue.
The meeting also strongly reacted to the exclusion of the gynecology (maternal and child health) sector from the health card facility in the province of Punjab. Terming this decision as contrary to the basic health rights of women, irresponsible and tantamount to depriving the sensitive section of the society of an important facility, immediate restoration was demanded.
On this occasion, the PMA also announced the organization of an International Medical Conference, which will be held at Hotel PC Lahore from May 15 to 17, 2026. The conference will be attended by national and foreign medical experts and there will be detailed sessions on modern research and developments in the field of medicine. PMA Lahore, in its position, said that the government should immediately resolve the legitimate issues of the medical community and make public health the top priority, keeping the health sector free from politics, injustice and unnecessary pressure.
