The Government of Punjab has taken a significant step to address the longstanding issue of illegal encroachments across the province. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has formally established the Pera Force, a dedicated enforcement team responsible for carrying out swift and effective operations against encroachments in urban and rural areas. The initiative aims not only to restore the original structure of markets and public spaces but also to improve public safety and urban mobility.
Illegal encroachments have been a persistent problem in major cities of Punjab. Shopkeepers and vendors occupying footpaths, roadsides, and public property have created severe disruptions in the flow of traffic. As a result, narrow roads and congested marketplaces have become routine challenges for citizens. According to government officials, these encroachments are among the major causes of daily road accidents, which often lead to loss of precious human lives.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, acknowledging the gravity of the situation, directed all district administrations to provide full support to the newly formed Pera Force. The force has been equipped with trained personnel, modern machinery and a systematic action plan to ensure that operations are carried out without delay. The government has also emphasized a zero-tolerance policy against those who attempt to rebuild or support illegal encroachments after removal. The purpose of the Pera Force is not limited to demolition alone. Authorities have stressed the importance of creating long-term awareness among the public and business communities. Market associations are being engaged to ensure cooperation, while strict legal action is being taken against individuals who resist or violate the rules. The administration believes that clearing public spaces will ultimately benefit citizens by reducing accidents, improving traffic flow, and restoring the beauty of cities. The Punjab government hopes that with consistent enforcement and public support, illegal encroachments will be permanently eliminated. The establishment of the Pera Force reflects the commitment of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to ensure safer roads, accessible markets, and a more organized urban environment for all residents of the province.
