Pakistan Army deployed in Rawalpindi for security duties

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi following a request from the Punjab government to strengthen security and maintain law and order in the city.

The Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control issued a notification authorizing the deployment under Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

Pakistan Army Deployment in Rawalpindi Approved

According to the notification, the decision followed a request from the Home Department of the Government of Punjab, submitted through a letter dated July 22, 2026.

The federal government has approved the deployment of three companies of the Pakistan Army to perform sensitive security duties in Rawalpindi.

The troops will assist the district administration in preventing any undesirable situation and responding quickly to unforeseen circumstances whenever their support is required.

The Pakistan Army deployment in Rawalpindi will take effect immediately and is authorized for a period of six months.

Army to Support Rawalpindi Administration

Under the approved arrangement, army personnel will assist the Rawalpindi district administration in maintaining law and order and strengthening security at sensitive locations and important routes.

The notification said the deployment is aimed at enabling authorities to respond effectively to any untoward incident and provide additional security support whenever necessary.

The move comes as authorities continue to focus on security arrangements across sensitive areas and key routes in Rawalpindi.

The district administration will determine when and where assistance is required, while the deployed troops will support local authorities in dealing with potential security challenges during the six-month period.
