Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar today signed the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea concerning the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement).

Pakistan played a leading role in the negotiations that led to the finalization of this landmark treaty. Serving as Chair of the Group of 77 and China during two major negotiation sessions, Pakistan advocated strongly for the interests of developing countries, emphasizing equity and adherence to the principle of the common heritage of humankind.
