Child marriage is one of the most serious social issues in the world today. It refers to the formal or informal marriage of a child under the age of 18, often to a much older person. This harmful practice affects millions of girls and boys, but girls are the most common victims. It takes away their right to education, health, and a happy childhood. One of the main reasons behind child marriage is poverty. Many families believe that marrying their daughters early will reduce their financial burden. In some cultures, it is also seen as a tradition or a way to “protect” the girl’s honor. However, these beliefs cause great harm to the child’s future. A young girl who is forced to marry is often not emotionally or physically ready for marriage or motherhood. This can lead to serious health problems, including early pregnancies and even death during childbirth. Education plays a key role in ending child marriage. When girls are allowed to study, they gain knowledge, confidence, and opportunities to make decisions about their own lives. Educated parents also understand the importance of delaying marriage until their children are mature and capable of handling responsibilities.
Governments and organizations around the world are working hard to stop child marriage. Laws have been made in many countries to protect children, but the real change will only come when society understands that childhood is not the time for marriage it is the time for learning, dreaming, and growing. In conclusion, child marriage destroys the innocence and potential of children. Every child deserves a life full of education, freedom, and love not early marriage. Let us all raise our voices to end this injustice and build a future where every child can live their life with dignity and happiness.
