Pakistani Embassy’s Press Wing Marks Leadership Transition in Washington
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Asim Siddiqui): Pakistan’s Embassy in Washington marked a leadership transition in its Press Wing with a farewell reception for outgoing Press Counselor Sarfraz Ahmad and a warm welcome for incoming Press Counselor Zobia Masood.
The event, hosted at the residence of veteran Pakistani-American journalist Faiz Rehman, was held as part of the routine diplomatic rotation under which officials serving in various sections of Pakistan’s foreign missions assume new assignments upon completing their tenures.
Recognized as one of the pioneers of Urdu and English journalism among the Pakistani-American community, Faiz Rehman has played a significant role in promoting professional journalism and highlighting issues concerning Pakistan and the Pakistani diaspora in the United States.
The reception brought together leading journalists, media professionals, and community leaders from across the Washington metropolitan area. Participants highlighted the importance of maintaining strong professional ties between the Pakistani Embassy and the media while promoting constructive engagement with the Pakistani-American community.
Several senior journalists paid tribute to Sarfraz Ahmad, praising his professionalism, accessibility, and positive relationship with members of the media throughout his tenure. They also extended their best wishes for his future diplomatic assignments.
Among the speakers were Dur-e-Akram (Daily Times), Anwar Iqbal (Dawn), Jahanzeb Ali Khan (ARY News), Geeti Ara, and several other prominent journalists. They welcomed Zobia Masood and expressed confidence that her previous experience in Washington would help further strengthen communication and cooperation between the Embassy and the media.
The reception concluded in a cordial atmosphere, offering journalists and community leaders an opportunity to reconnect, exchange ideas, and reaffirm their commitment to responsible journalism, professional collaboration, and stronger community engagement.
