On Saturday, Inspector General of Balochistan Police, Tahir Mahmood, along with DIG Zhob Range, Muhammad Kashif, arrived in Chaman on a one-day official visit. Upon their arrival, they were accorded a warm welcome, and a smartly turned-out police contingent presented a guard of honor.
The IG Police addressed a joint police darbār of District Qila Abdullah and District Chaman held in Chaman. On this occasion, District Police Officer Chaman, Abdullah Cheema, and District Police Officer Qila Abdullah, Shahid Jamil Kakar, gave a detailed briefing on the overall situation and the law-and-order conditions in their respective districts. The IG Police listened attentively to the problems and difficulties faced by police personnel and assured them of full cooperation and effective measures for the resolution of their issues.
IG Police Tahir Mahmood also visited the Pak-Afghan border, where he reviewed the prevailing security arrangements. Speaking to the media in Chaman, he stated that the protection of life and property of the people of Balochistan is among the government’s top priorities, and no compromise will be made in this regard. He added that comprehensive measures are being taken on a large scale to maintain peace and order across the province.
He further noted that the salaries of Balochistan Police are not significantly lower than those of other provinces, and that various aspects are under active consideration to further enhance performance and improve facilities for the force.
Terming the merger of the Levies Force into the police as a need of the hour, the IG Police said that in order to take the province forward, it was essential to integrate the Levies Force into the police. While acknowledging and honoring the sacrifices rendered by the Levies Force, he emphasized that the time has come to transform it from a traditional tribal force into a modern, professional law enforcement agency.
After being hosted at a luncheon at the Chaman DC Complex, the IG Police and his accompanying delegation departed for Quetta.
