Houston: The largest chapter of the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America — APPNA STC — organized a vibrant shopping bazaar and a grand annual gala in Sugar Land, attracting an impressive turnout from the Pakistani-American medical community and local U.S. leadership.
The APPNA Bazaar featured renowned designers and vendors from both Pakistan and the United States, whose collections and products quickly became the center of attention for the visiting doctors and their families.
More than 600 Pakistani-American physicians, along with elected U.S. representatives — including Mayor of Sugar Land Carol McCutcheon — and prominent community leaders attended the annual gala, marking it as one of APPNA Texas’s most successful events to date.
Lifetime Achievement Award for Syed Javed Anwar
In recognition of his outstanding community service, distinguished businessman Syed Javed Anwar was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by APPNA Texas. Several other notable personalities were also honored with appreciation awards during the ceremony.
Speaking to the media, Syed Javed Anwar emphasized the importance of supporting underserved communities in Pakistan. He urged APPNA to continue establishing medical facilities in interior Sindh and to assist Pakistani students who lack financial resources.
Message from New York’s Newly-Elected Muslim Mayor
A video message from Zahran Mamdani, New York’s newly-elected Muslim mayor, was also displayed during the gala. He applauded the contributions of Pakistani doctors and praised Democratic leaders Tahir Javed, Ibrahim Javed, APPNA President Naveed Saqib, and former president Haider Afzal for their dedicated service. His introduction was presented by young Democratic leader Ibrahim Javed.
Announcements and Highlights
APPNA Texas President Dr. Naveed Saqib, while speaking to the media, announced the launch of a scholarship program to support deserving medical students in Pakistan.
The evening was hosted by Dr. Murtaza Arif and Dr. Hina Manan, who served as Masters of Ceremony. The organizing committee — including Dr. Saadia Atif, Dr. Fabiya Younus, Dr. Hina Manan, Dr. Naveed Saqib, Dr. Bilal, Dr. Murtaza Arif, and Dr. Ashar — received widespread appreciation for flawlessly managing both the bazaar and the gala.
A colorful fashion show featuring local models and leading fashion designers added glamour to the event, showcasing modern and elegant Pakistani attire.

The gala concluded with a mesmerizing performance by Pakistan’s legendary singer Sajjad Ali, who captivated the audience with his timeless voice and unforgettable melodies.
