As a Defender and International Researcher on Human Rights, I had the honor of attending the recent meeting of the District Human Rights Committee, Korangi, as an official committee member. The session proved to be highly productive, focusing on some of the most pressing human rights challenges faced by communities, especially children. I deeply appreciate the meaningful discussions held throughout the meeting and the strong leadership demonstrated by Deputy Commissioner Korangi, DC Konranfi Bhato.
One of the central points of discussion was the urgent need to identify and enroll out-of-school children across Korangi. The committee emphasized that education is not only a constitutional right but also a powerful tool to break cycles of poverty, exploitation, and social inequality. Members highlighted the importance of coordinated action between government departments, schools, and civil society organizations to ensure that every child has access to safe, quality, and inclusive education.
The committee also examined the growing concerns regarding child labour and bonded labour, which continue to affect vulnerable families in various sectors. The discussion focused on preventive measures, rehabilitation mechanisms, and the need to strengthen monitoring systems at the district level. It was agreed that stronger enforcement of labor laws, public awareness campaigns, and increased reporting mechanisms are essential to protect children from exploitation.
This Human Rights Committee has been formed under the directive of the Prime Minister and upon the guidance of the National Task Force, with the aim of improving human rights governance at the grassroots level. The Korangi committee is expected to play a vital role in addressing rights violations, ensuring accountability, and promoting a culture of respect, dignity, and justice.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to evaluate ongoing initiatives and identify gaps in current systems. The active participation of all members demonstrated a shared commitment to improving human rights conditions across Korangi district. I highly appreciate the proactive approach and dedication of DC Konranfi Bhato, whose leadership is essential in strengthening coordination among departments and ensuring timely action on human rights issues.
The session concluded with a renewed pledge to continue working collaboratively for the protection of children, the elimination of forced labour, and improved educational access. With such collective efforts, Korangi district can set a strong example for promoting and safeguarding human rights at the district level in Sindh.
