An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Monday acquitted PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi in two additional cases related to the May 9 riots. Meanwhile, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudry, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, and Mian Mehmoodur Rashid were sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The May 9, 2023 protests by PTI supporters erupted nationwide following the arrest of party founder Imran Khan, leading to violent clashes and thousands of arrests.
The ATC reserved its verdict on Saturday in two cases — the Shadman police station attack and the burning of police vehicles near Jinnah House — after conducting hearings at Kot Lakhpat jail. The judge held the sessions inside the jail throughout the day before delivering the verdict.
