South Korean Fighter Jets Accidentally Bomb Village, Injuring 15
On March 6, 2025, two South Korean KF-16 fighter jets accidentally dropped eight 500-pound (225kg) MK-82 bombs on the village of Nogok-ri, near Pocheon, during a live-fire training exercise. The mishap resulted in injuries to 15 civilians, including two who were seriously hurt. The bombs caused significant damage to several structures, including homes and a Catholic church.
The South Korean Air Force attributed the incident to a pilot entering incorrect coordinates, leading the bombs to fall outside the designated firing range. They have issued an apology and suspended all live-fire exercises pending a thorough investigation.
Local authorities have evacuated approximately 50 residents as a precautionary measure. Pocheon Mayor Baek Young-hyun has called for a halt to military exercises in the area until effective safety measures are implemented.
