PMA Lahore demands enforcement of Hospital Security Act after tragic killing of Dr. Mahwish in Kohat
The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Lahore has strongly condemned the tragic killing of a lady doctor in Kohat by the attendants of a patient, terming it a grave threat to healthcare professionals across the country. The association expressed deep sorrow and grief over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family of Dr. Mahwish. PMA Lahore demanded immediate and strict legal action against the accused involved in the incident and expressed complete solidarity with the medical community.
These demands were made during an emergency meeting held at PMA House Lahore, chaired by President Professor Dr. Shahid Malik. The meeting was attended by Professor Dr. Ashraf Nizami, Dr. Aram Shehzadi, Dr. Wajid Ali, Dr. Bushra Haq, Dr. Izhar Chaudhry, Dr. Kamran Saeed, Dr. Tanveer Anwar, Dr. Nadir Khan, Dr. Ahmad Naeem Akhtar, and Dr. Maryam Fatima, among other office-bearers.
The participants stated that this tragic incident highlights the alarming rise in violence against doctors and healthcare staff in Pakistan. They emphasized that the unfortunate event once again proves that doctors and medical personnel across the country remain highly vulnerable and unsafe.
The office-bearers stressed that ensuring the safety of healthcare professionals is imperative. The meeting urged the government to immediately enforce the Hospital Security Act to provide effective protection to doctors and medical staff working in hospitals; otherwise, the public healthcare system may suffer irreparable damage.
