Pakistan marks 27 years since becoming a nuclear power on Youm-e-Takbeer, observed every May 28. In 1998, Pakistan responded to India’s five nuclear tests with its own successful detonations in Chagai, Balochistan, restoring regional balance and securing its defense.
The tests, led by then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, made Pakistan the world’s first Islamic nuclear state. Today, the country observes a public holiday with special events honoring the armed forces.
