Iran Mulls Parliamentary Bill to Suspend Cooperation with UN Nuclear Watchdog

Tehran — A member of Iran’s parliament presidium, Ruhollah Motefakerzadeh, announced on Monday that a new parliamentary bill is under consideration to suspend Iran’s cooperation with the United Nations nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The announcement was reported by state media.

The proposed legislation follows heightened tensions between Tehran and Western powers over the country’s nuclear program and recent military escalations in the region. Motefakerzadeh emphasized that the bill is a direct response to what he described as “unjust pressure and politicized measures” by the UN nuclear body.

If passed, the bill could significantly reduce the IAEA’s oversight of Iran’s nuclear activities, complicating international efforts to monitor the country’s atomic program. The move is likely to draw criticism from the West and further strain already fragile diplomatic ties.

The IAEA has yet to respond publicly to the proposed legislation.
