Federal Government Officially Launches National Electric Vehicle Policy 2025-30
The federal government has formally launched the National Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2025-30. During a press conference in Islamabad, Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, described the policy as a historic and revolutionary step toward Pakistan’s industrial, environmental, and energy reforms.
He stated that the policy is aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision and aims to promote clean, sustainable, and affordable transportation, environmental protection, and growth of the local industry. One of the major targets set by the policy is to ensure that 30% of new vehicles on the road are electric by 2030.
Haroon Akhtar Khan highlighted that the policy could save 2.07 billion liters of fuel annually, resulting in foreign exchange savings of approximately 1 billion USD. It is also expected to reduce carbon emissions by 4.5 million tons and lower public health expenses by 405 million USD per year.
He announced an initial subsidy allocation of 900 million PKR for the fiscal year 2025-26, which will facilitate the supply of 116,053 electric bikes and 3,171 electric rickshaws nationwide.
