Clean Drinking Water Supply Begins in Gwada
Gwadar (Gwadar Pro): The supply of clean drinking water to every household in Gwadar city has officially begun. On March 6, water started flowing into homes through a newly laid pipeline network from the Klanachi Para area.
Saifullah Khatran, the Director General of the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA), described this progress as a significant step towards ensuring access to clean drinking water. He stated that this initiative will help resolve the water shortage issue in the region.
A GDA official informed Gwadar Pro that residents had been forced to drink contaminated water due to sewage contamination in the old supply lines. The GDA has replaced the outdated and damaged water supply network with a modern 141 km long insulated pipeline, costing 3.5 billion rupees.
Additionally, Fakir Colony and Dhor areas of Gwadar, which were already connected to the water supply lines, are now ready to receive clean drinking water this week.
The GDA has also made significant progress by laying a 158 km pipeline from Shadi Kor and Sowad dams to the city. Furthermore, four underground storage tanks have been constructed, with a total capacity of storing one million gallons of water.
To ensure the sustainable supply of clean drinking water, water reservoirs near Ankara Dam, Sowad Dam, and Shadi Kor Dam have been interconnected.
The GDA highlighted that a 67 km transmission pipeline costing 3.8 billion rupees has been installed from the Sowad Dam, capable of delivering 5 million gallons of water per day. Additionally, Shadi Kor Dam has been completed at a cost of 3.5 billion rupees, with a capacity of 2.5 million gallons per day (MGD) of clean drinking water.
