China Halts Export Registrations for Over 1,000 U.S. Meat Plants, Threatening Trade
China has allowed export registrations for more than 1,000 U.S. meat plants to lapse, as shown on its customs website, potentially disrupting American meat exports to the world’s largest buyer. The registrations were granted under the 2020 “Phase 1” trade deal but expired on Sunday, raising concerns amid an ongoing tariff standoff between Washington and Beijing.
The move could significantly impact U.S. meat producers, who rely on the Chinese market for a substantial portion of exports. The lapse in approvals comes at a time of heightened trade tensions, with both nations locked in disputes over tariffs and market access.
Industry analysts warn that unless new agreements are reached, American meat exports to China could face significant disruptions, further straining U.S.-China trade relations.
