Catholics Mourn Pope Francis at St. Peter’s Square

Thousands gathered at St. Peter’s Square on April 26, 2025, to mourn Pope Francis, who passed away at age 88. A funeral Mass led by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re honored the pontiff’s legacy. Pope Francis was laid to rest at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, following his wish for a simple burial.
