Strengthening Pakistan–U.S. Collaboration in Healthcare & Medical Education
A significant step toward advancing bilateral cooperation was taken as Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, visited the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) through the efforts of renowned Pakistani physician Dr. Tariq Butt.
The visit was also attended by the Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States and the Consul General of Pakistan in Chicago, highlighting the importance of this initiative.
Discussions with UIC leadership focused on expanding collaboration in medical education, research, healthcare innovation, faculty and student exchange programs, advanced surgical training, and institutional partnerships. Special emphasis was placed on future cooperation with the Jinnah Medical Complex and Research Center (JMCRC) and the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI).

Minister Ahsan Iqbal reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to building strong partnerships with leading international institutions to promote world-class healthcare, education, and research. UIC leadership welcomed the initiative and expressed keen interest in developing long-term collaboration with Pakistani institutions.
This visit marks another important milestone in strengthening academic and medical ties between Pakistan and the United States.
