Faisalabad: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a major transport initiative for Faisalabad. The 21.3-kilometer Orange Line from Faisal Town Jaranwala Road to Tahirpura Jhang Road is nearly ready, with 27 metro buses and 2 trams set to operate soon. The CM will hold the project’s groundbreaking immediately after Eid. Captain (R) Zahid Saeed, Member of Punjab Mass Transit Authority and former Chief Secretary Punjab, chaired a meeting alongside Faisalabad Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar. The meeting revealed that the mega project, costing Rs80 billion, has its PC-1 approved, with 21 stations on the Orange Line, 2 depots, and 6 U-turns planned.

Zahid Saeed instructed WASA, FESCO, Sui Gas, PHA, Municipal Corporation, Traffic Police, and PTCL to conduct surveys and issue demand notices within 10 days for the relocation of utility services according to project alignment. He emphasized that alternative routes should be planned to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow and that zero tolerance will be applied to safety measures at construction sites. The Project Management Unit has appointed a Health Safety Officer, and ensuring safe excavation is a top priority. He added that residents will be provided maximum relief during the construction phase. Measures will be taken to minimize dust and dirt through water sprinkling, lighting and signboards will be installed, and trees will be relocated using technology without cutting them. The Orange Line metro and tram service will provide significant convenience for commuters, serving thousands of passengers daily. Residents along the route will be informed in advance about temporary utility service disruptions during relocations. Deputy Commissioner Captain (R) Nadeem Nasir, officials from the Mass Transit Authority, and relevant departments attended the meeting.
