Anti-polio teams to identify open manholes during campaign, citizens asked to share GPS-tagged photos via WhatsApp
The Faisalabad district administration has decided to cover open manholes across the district on a priority basis while announcing a zero-tolerance policy for public and child safety, this decision was taken during an emergency meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Captain (R) Nadeem Nasir, where citizen safety was declared a shared responsibility, it was decided that more than five thousand teams deployed for the anti-polio campaign will also take photographs of open manholes in streets and neighborhoods during the campaign and present daily reports in follow-up meetings, Union Council Secretaries have been directed to become part of an emergency drive for immediate identification and covering of open manholes within their respective jurisdictions, the district administration has also appealed to citizens to send photographs of open manholes along with GPS locations to WhatsApp numbers 03401145883 and 03090669362, according to the administration WASA and Municipal Committee teams will ensure immediate response and cover open manholes without delay and no negligence will be tolerated, the Deputy Commissioner issued clear instructions to all Assistant Commissioners and relevant departments to ensure prompt identification, covering and safety measures, owners of private housing societies were warned of strict legal action in case of open manholes and orders were issued for immediate notices, special instructions were given to ensure protective arrangements around ponds, streams and drains in rural areas to safeguard children, it was also decided to initiate environmental surveys through school assemblies so that children can report daily neighborhood issues, an immediate crackdown was ordered against encroachments and illegal constructions over drains, WASA was directed to secure sewerage systems around parks, schools and colleges while ensuring active field presence, under-construction sites were instructed to be declared restricted areas with mandatory safety fencing, the Deputy Commissioner appealed to parents to strictly prevent children from playing near open manholes, drains, streams and ponds, the meeting also decided to activate community watch systems at neighborhood level and engage religious scholars and teachers in safety awareness, it was further decided to display safety messages at mosques, schools and public places, emphasizing that the zero-tolerance policy can only succeed with public cooperation.
