To provide military aid, President Biden gathered allies while allocating resources for preparing the U.S. to confront China. In a speech at the State Department, President Biden reiterated his accomplishments, saying, “Compared to four years ago, America is winning worldwide. America is strong. Our allies are strong. Our adversaries and rivals are weaker. We have not achieved our goals through war.” He also stated that he is leaving behind a stronger country and that America is once again playing a leadership role.

Biden pointed out that his administration faced war, disasters, and misjudgments but demonstrated strong leadership when the world needed it. Looking back at his four years in office, the sudden withdrawal from Afghanistan created a challenging situation for his administration from the start. By pulling out U.S. forces from Afghanistan in 2021, Biden not only ended America’s longest war but also fulfilled a campaign promise to his voters. However, the aftermath of the 20-year conflict caused more issues, including the overthrow of the U.S.-backed Afghan government. A bomb blast killed 13 U.S. soldiers and 170 others, while the Kabul Airport became chaotic, with thousands of desperate Afghans attempting to board the final flights.

Biden’s foreign policy will also be viewed in the context of the devastation in Gaza. Just eight months into his presidency, the Afghanistan conflict took a new turn, leaving Biden’s administration struggling to manage the withdrawal. During his speech, Biden stated, “Ending the war was the right move, and I believe history will prove that.” Critics had warned that ending the war would harm U.S. alliances and expose the homeland to direct terrorist attacks from Afghanistan, but that did not happen.

Regarding Ukraine, Biden commented that Russian President Vladimir Putin initially believed Russian forces could easily defeat Ukraine in just a few days. However, “Today, Ukraine remains an independent and sovereign nation.”

Biden’s foreign policy in the Middle East, especially in the context of the ongoing devastation in Gaza, is also significant. In the Middle East, Biden strongly supported Israel when Prime Minister Netanyahu waged a devastating war to remove Hamas from Gaza. This conflict also sparked another war in Lebanon, where Israel attacked Hezbollah, Iran’s powerful ally. Furthermore, Israel launched successful airstrikes inside Iran. Biden remarked, “Iran is now weaker than it has been in decades.”
